Riitta uses a form of inlay for many of her woven pictures as it enables her to incorporate different weaves into the same piece of work. Others are woven with a harness system draw loom. The pictures are woven in hand spun and dyed linen, sometimes incorporating other materials such as lurex and handmade linen paper. Most pictures are sold with custom made frames, however, they are also available unframed for easier posting. Each picture is a one-off original and will never be repeated.
The beautiful Pembrokeshire landscape, from the dramatic coastline with its sandy beaches and rocky cliffs to the undulating hills and Preseli Mountains, provides constant inspiration for Riitta’s pictures. Many of them are also influenced by the subtle interplay of light and shadows, and the different shades of white that occur in snow and ice.
